It’s Okay not to be Okay

For years and years I struggled with my emotions and from a very young age I became very frustrated with life. I was always the ‘sensitive one’, the ‘baby’ and the ‘crier’ because life situations, events and challenges would become very overwhelming and I’d find it really difficult to cope with everything I was feeling. Because I couldn’t deal with my emotions properly, and instead see them for what they really were – an opportunity to heal, I ended up binge eating, smoking, drinking, taking drugs and distracting myself in order to deal with them. I constantly referred to myself as a victim and thought the entire world was against me. I called myself ‘depressed’, ‘anxious’, ‘lonely’, ‘insecure’ etc. in a bid to make excuses for my behaviour. What I failed to realise is that my emotions were not a part of me, they were totally separate and existed outside of me. I need you to imagine yourself as the sky. Infinite, present, calm, beautiful and made of nothing but love. Everything else, every thought, feeling and emotion are just passing clouds (or sometimes they’re dark, violent, scary storms). They come and go with the wind, they do not define you. A cloud can never become the sky. This is how you need to view your emotions from now on, totally separate and above all else – temporary. Uncomfortable emotions are a beautiful gift that point to areas of our life that need to change. If someone is treating you badly and you feel hurt, then you’re allowing it in some way. You need to feel the hurt to recognise that you deserve better, then you can make the change to move on and remove toxic people from your life. The same emotions will keep coming up until you find the best way to overcome them. There is such a lesson in EVERYTHING you feel. Become self aware, take a step back and evaluate how you feel, why it’s happening and what you can do to make a change. Love you all x

    This video was super eye opening for me. I have had a few emotional times this year and some depressed moments. I want to start meditating and read more so I can have more time for myself.
    I hope you are getting settled in Bali and you feel a sense of excitement and relief for this new chapter in your life!
